new yummy wines

Hello!

I have been a bit MIA so I figured with an impending snow day (all the other counties around us have called it EXCEPT for ours!) I would sit down and update on my recent wine adventures.

My wine life has been enriched by the single best wedding present we received, the wine of the month club membership from head and mally. Seriously, I cannot imagine a better gift because not only do I get to try wines that I normally wouldn't, they are all EXCEPTIONALLY good!. Thanks HEAD!

1. Montevina Chardonnay - Until recently I had written off Chardonnay as a inferior white but I have had enough really good ones recently to realize that I was being unfair to this poor grape. This Chardonnay is quite good. It has been aged in enough oak to give it that vanilla flavor but it is not wood chippy.

2. Seghesio Red Zinfandel- Zinfandel, another wine I had written off until I tried this particular one. This Zinfandel has a bit of the fruitiness of a traditional zinfandel but then it has this rich creamy flavor to it that makes you crave a big old hunk of cheese. This was not a wine that I received from the wine of the month club, it was actually one that I sold at a tasting the other day. I sold quite a few bottles of it in spite of the fact that the economy is so shitty and it's a 22 dollar bottle of wine. In fact, I even sold a bit of cheese as well with my whole spiel about how well it would pair with fontina or Stilchester (the cheese I bought to go with the bottle I bought myself).

3. Matchbook 2005 Tinto Red from Dunnigan Hills - A blend of Syrah, Tempranillo, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Graciano. Another wonderful addition from the wine of the month club! I am usually wary for grape blends, especially red ones - most likely for the simple reason that Virginia wines do not do red blends well so I have been burnt too many times. HOWEVER, this blend truly picks up the best of each of its parts. The syrah lends its dryness, the Malbec lends a richness, the Tempranillo lends that classic spiciness. The smell makes me want to do backflips in my kitchen chair. YUM!

Update... In the process of writing this blog they have finally called the snow day for my school for tomorrow! Yippeee!!! Back to the wine for this guy!

Terra Rosa

Long time no see Blog Spot.

Tonight I am watching the Superbowl with the Chenmeister and drinking a lovely old vine Malbec from Argentina called Terra Rosa. This is one of the lovely wines given to me by my Head and Mally through a Wine of the Month Club subscription.

This Malbec is incredibly smooth with a nice vanilla undertone to it. It tastes really good with the crock pot pot roast I made for dinner AND with the vermont white cheddar I am currently eating as a snack.

I have tried quite a few Argentinian wines as of late and as a result I am jonesing for a trip down south to the Mendoza region of Argentina.
